Digital move for Hachette USA
Hachette Book Group USA is to use LibreDigital, a division of NewsStand, to deliver book content via the web and digital platforms.
The new Hachette Book Group service, called OpenBook, will give readers online access to a library of titles offered by the publisher, including works from bestselling authors such as James Patterson, Robert Ludlum, Stephenie Meyer, and Stephen Colbert.
The Hachette Book Group will also create online book widgets, which offer readers a simple way to showcase their favourite book titles on their blogs and social networking sites.
David Young, chairman and chief executive officer of Hachette Book Group USA, said: "The stories and information that books capture will always play a key role in how people are informed and entertained. Hachette Book Group USA is focused on using the best of technology to enhance the availability of our books in all formats. Our alliance with LibreDigital will open doors for readers to experience our bestselling books in new ways and interact with other fans on digital platforms."
Hachette joins the likes of HarperCollins, Random House and Bloomsbury in its digital move, and use of book widgets. In addition, HarperCollins owns a stake in NewsStand.
