Arcadia expands with new board
08.10.07 Alison Flood
Sonny Leong will sit on Arcadia Books' first ever non executive board, along with Bradt m.d. Donald Greig, Roger Katz of Hatchards Piccadilly and author Daniel Hahn. Leong, who founded Cavendish Publishing, will be chair of the board, which also includes Arcadia directors Gary Pulsifer and Daniela de Groote.
The move is part of major expansion plans for Arcadia, which include a new series for children and teens for its BlackAmber imprint, along with more commercial titles from 2008. These will see Arcadia publish its first photography book, Spirits of Tangier: Visions through a Viewfinder by fashion photographer Tessa Codrington in May 2008. Arcadia will also expand its EuroCrime series, with ten titles scheduled for publication in 2008.
Two other major 2008 titles are award-winning BBC journalist Andrew Hosken's biography of Ken Livingstone, scheduled to appear just before next year's mayoral elections, and anthology The Children's Hours: Stories of Childhood edited by Richard Zimler and Rasa Sekolovic. Royalties will benefit Save the Children and contributors include Margaret Atwood and Nadine Gordimer.
Leong said: "I am delighted to join the Arcadia Board as their non executive chairman. Gary and Daniela and their team are an inspiration to many independent publishers, they have been at the cutting edge of foreign translated literary publishing, and have won many literary awards and
prizes. They have set out aggressive expansion plans to grow the business and I very much look forward to working with them."
