DK develops reflexology 'widget'

Dorling Kindersley has created a "widget" for users to grab and add to their websites and profiles on Facebook and other social networking sites.

The widget, which supports the launch of Reflexology for Life by Kevin & Barbara Kunz, lets users read their hands using a reflexology map. It is based on DK's online reflexology charts, which have become the most viewed content on the publishers' website.

Faye Hellon, manager for DK's websites, said: "Moving into social networking sites and allowing users to take snippets of our content away is an exciting element of our online marketing strategy. We want to encourage more interaction with our readers by focusing on their needs and thinking about useful teaser content we can give them, whilst encouraging them to buy our books."

DK is following the reflexology widget with another in October to promote one of its lead Christmas titles, Earth: A Visitor's Guide. Entitled "Alien-dog's Daily Bizarre Bark", this widget promises to give users a "daily factoid of all things weird, strange, bizarre and true."
