Serial killers to Piatkus
Piatkus has bought six new "hard-edged" suspense titles—with added romance—from New York Times bestselling writer Allison Brennan.
The deal, for a "very good" sum, is for three paperback originals and three hardbacks and was done with Lara Allen at Trident Media. "We don't like doing things by halves," said fiction editorial director Gillian Green. "We don't like to buy books—we buy authors. And we had been watching her for a while."
Piatkus will publish the first three books—Killing Fear, Silent Scream and Dying Breath—in March, August and October 2008; the second series will appear in 2009, simultaneously with the US. Killing Fear is the story of ex-stripper Sydney Dahl, who helped to put a serial killer on death row. The killer has escaped and is vengeful.
"Allison is on the verge of being really big in the US, and I think she could be equally huge over here," said Green, who compared her to Tami Hoag and Tess Gerritsen. "Marketing [is] to be confirmed but we will be doing a big number on her."
