Tintin controversy hits South Africa
The International Herald Tribune has it that the South African publisher of Tintin in the Congo, Human & Rousseau, will not release an Afrikaans version of the book following complains of racism in Britain. "We felt that it depicted indigenous African people in an unflattering ... stereotypical fashion," the paper reports spokesman Carina Diedericks-Hugo as saying.
The paper also says that Penguin will also be placing notices on the English version of the book, warning potential buyers of the racial sensitivity of its contents.
