Rowling 'staggered' by Potter breaches

Harry Potter author J K Rowling said this afternoon that she was "staggered" by yesterday's US publication of reviews of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, three days before the heavily embargoed final novel in the series is published.
Rowling said the move to publish "purported spoilers" was "in complete disregard of the wishes of literally millions of readers, particularly children, who wanted to reach Harry's final destination by themselves, in their own time". She added: "I am incredibly grateful to all those newspapers, booksellers and others who have chosen not to attempt to spoil Harry's last adventure for fans."
Bloomsbury said that its retail customers "in 93 countries worldwide" were robustly supporting the embargo time of 00.01am on Saturday. It said the spoilers posted on the internet purporting to be extracts from the books "remain unauthenticated".
In a statement, the publisher said: "We would like to thank our customers and suppliers again for their full support given in so many different ways. We would also like to thank the worldwide media for their own observance of, and strict policing of, the embargo to preserve the secrecy of the plot for the readers of Harry Potter."
