Orion launches new trade division
17.07.07 Alison Flood
The Orion Publishing Group has created a new trade division in what c.e.o. Peter Roche described as a "streamlining" of its structure. The new trade division comprises Weidenfeld & Nicolson non-fiction and illustrated; Orion non-fiction; W&N fiction; Orion fiction; Gollancz; and Orion Children's Books. It will sit alongside Orion's existing paperback division, and will be headed by Orion Books m.d. Lisa Milton, who reports to deputy c.e.o. and group publisher Malcolm Edwards along with paperback division head Susan Lamb.
The changes will also see Mark Rusher promoted to trade marketing director and Helen Richardson to trade publicity director, both reporting to Milton. Anthony Keates is promoted to paperback marketing and publicity director, reporting to Lamb. Following George Sharp's retirement last month, Lucie Stericker has been appointed group creative director, reporting to Edwards.
Roche said: "These changes are designed to create the structure best suited to continue and build on our considerable track record of successful, stylish and innovative publishing. By streamlining the structure we are giving ourselves much greater flexibility to decide which team should work
on a particular project to best effect."
Orion has also made a raft of promotions in its editorial departments. Kirsty Dunseath is promoted to W&N fiction deputy publishing director, reporting to Helen Garnons-Williams (who returns from maternity leave in August), while Lucinda McNeile is promoted to W&N non-fiction editorial director, reporting to Alan Samson. Jon Wood is taking on responsibility for Gollancz in addition to Orion fiction as he steps up to become publishing director of the trade division. Edwards will continue to direct publishing and acquisition strategy across the group.
