Ronaldo: Pan dives in

Pan Macmillan has acquired the first book from Cristiano Ronaldo, the Manchester United and Portugal winger who was named PFA Players' Player of the Year 2007. It will publish this October.

Richard Milner secured the book via a profit share deal with Portuguese publisher Ideias & Rumos, represented by UK agent David Luxton. Pan will represent the book internationally, handling rights, distribution and serial sales.

Rather than a full autobiography, Moments: The Way I Feel comprises stories, recollections and 150 photographs. Milner, who compared it to David Beckham's My World (Hodder), said: "It's very accessible and personal but not sensationalist—it is an integrated insight into a football star's world both on and off the pitch."

The project was conceived by publishers and lawyer Pedro Paradela de Abreu of Ideias & Rumos, who had already commissioned an English translation. The foreword is by Sir Bobby Charlton.

Ronaldo was widely credited with leading Manchester United to the Premiership title earlier this year. His accolades, in addition to the prestigious PFA Players' Player of the Year and Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year awards, include PFA Fans' Player of the Year, Manchester United Players' Player of the Year, Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year and Portuguese Player of the Year. "He's the biggest young star at the biggest club in the biggest sport in the world," Milner said.
