Campbell rises to three on Amazon
09.07.07 Graeme Neill
Alastair Campbell's much-hyped account of his time working with former Prime Minister Tony Blair has seen impressive first day sales, peaking at three on Amazon.co.uk's bestseller chart today. The former spin doctor was kept off the top spot only by the two editions of the forthcoming Harry Potter book.
The Blair Years, published today by Random House imprint Hutchinson, is the first installment of Campbell's political diaries. Despite not selling serialisation rights, the book has been extensively pushed in the press, with Campbell also writing a blog about the launch on his marketing website www.alastaircampbelldiaries.co.uk. This week the BBC will screen a three part documentary combining readings of the diary along with archive footage of key events.
Ladbrokes is quoting odds of 8/1 that the book will top The Bookseller's Top 50 chart next week.
