US authors denounce dead celebrity bill
US authors' body the Authors Guild and the Association of American Publishers yesterday denounced a bill on the floor of the New York State Legislature, according to US publishing blog GalleyCat. The bill could allow heirs the legal right to block the use of photographs and other likenesses of deceased public figures who passed away after 1st January 1938, GalleyCat reports.
The AAP described the bill as "a disaster", while the Authors Guild has urged its members to oppose the legislation.
