Hodder boost for Lagardere
11.05.07 Philip Jones
Hodder Headline has continued its "fine 2006 performance" into 2007, according to quarterly results filed by its parent Lagardere. The UK company, part of the Hachette Book Group, helped Lagardere's publishing division grow its revenue by 3% in the three months to end-March 2007 on a like-for-like basis.
Actual publishing sales rose by 29.2% to €411.2m, largely due to the consolidation of €83m of sales from Time Warner Book Group, which in 2006 was consolidated only from the second quarter.
The group said: "In the United Kingdom, Hodder Headline continued its fine 2006 performance across all sectors (General Literature, Children’s Books and Education)." Lagardere's publishing business was also helped by its French education unit recording "substantial growth", driven by sales of school and distance learning books; its literature division "again" showed a slight fall.
Hachette's book division, which includes Hodder Headline, Time Warner, and Orion, raised sales by 20% in 2006 to €1.97bn, thanks to what the group called "further strong growth" at Hodder Headline.
