Publishers digitise to survive
Publishing companies are gearing themselves up to do battle with Google and other internet companies by converting thousands of titles into "ebooks", notes the Telegraph. Many in the industry believe that unless they take pre-emptive action, they could lose out to internet giants.
"Although electronic books have been available to download for several years, they have so far failed to take off in the same way as download-able music and video. The biggest obstacle has been the flickery and backlit nature of computer screens, which make it tiring to read small print for long periods. However, a new generation of 'electronic ink' screens is emerging."
