Durham Cathedral reopens its bookshop

Durham Cathedral bookshop will re-open under its own management on 1st March after closing earlier this year. The shop shut suddenly on 23rd January after being managed by St Stephen the Great Trust (SSG) for three years after it took over from SPCK.

A statement from the cathedral chapter said it hoped the shop would "re-establish itself very quickly as a resource for all the churches". It added: "We are very grateful to the staff of the former shop who, for over three years, have done their best under very difficult circumstances that were not of their or the Cathedral's making." The shop was once known as the best theological bookshop in the world.

Due to roof problems the new shop will initially focus on the needs of visitors to the cathedral and will be in a different location. However "as soon as arrangements can be made", a larger shop will open with a wide range of theology books and church supplies.

The shop can now take orders for any books and church supplies. Organisations will need to establish new accounts since this is a completely new business.

To open an account, or notify the shop of order requirements, contact shop@durhamcathedral.co.uk or The Shop at Durham Cathedral, The Chapter Office, The College, Durham, DH1 3EH.
