18.01.10 | Victoria Gallagher
An independent bookseller is holding a literary speed dating event in the run up to Valentines Day in the quest to find love for literary lone souls.
The Edinburgh Bookshop in Bruntsfield is holding a literary speed dating event on 9th February.
Owner Vanessa Robertson said: "Edinburgh is a city full of enthusiastic and knowledgeable readers and we wanted to have a fun evening when people could chat about their favourite books.
"As it’s nearing Valentine’s Day, we thought: why not make it a dating event? Maybe we’ll have an Edinburgh Bookshop wedding at some point."
Tickets are £5, which includes a drink on arrival, and the event will be held at at The One Below, The Rutland Hotel, 1-3 Rutland Street, Edinburgh.

Sorry Pauline but no, we're not Waterstones. The Edinburgh Bookshop is an independent bookshop that with a combination of bookselling experience and great communication with local readers is fully anticipating that Waterstones will be copying us soon enough. After all, this is the company that put up a sign in its George Street branch that read: 'Alex and the bookselling team would like to welcome Borders customers'... which is wrong in so many ways that to paraphrase a 20th century physicist, they're not even right.19 Jan 10 18:16

Hi Andrew, I didn't mean you were Waterstones, I thought they might want to take a leaf out of your book with a bit of creative marketing, and imitation as they say is the sincerest form of flattery! Good luck with it, and when I'm doing a tour of Scotland I'll pop in and say 'hello.'29 Jan 10 07:19
