Salman Rushdie is producing a sequel to his children’s story Haroun and the Sea of Stories, first published by Granta in 1990. Luka and the Fire of Life will be published by Jonathan Cape in autumn 2010.
Haroun and the Sea of Stories was written for Rushdie’s eldest son Zafar and told of how 12-year-old Haroun went on a quest to help his father Rashid, who had lost his gift of storytelling. Luka and the Fire of Life is being written for the author’s youngest son, Milan, who was born in 1999.
In this second story, Luka is Haroun’s much younger brother and this time their father Rashid is very ill. To save him, Luka must go on a quest to find the fire of life, passing through various terrifying ordeals in the course of his journey.
CCV publisher Dan Franklin described Luka and the Fire of Life as “brilliant”. He said: “It’s as good as [Philip Pullman’s] Northern Lights”.
Franklin said that Jonathan Cape will publish the book as an adult/crossover title in the first week of October 2010.

I'm glad to read about the sequel to Haroun--I bought Haroun and the Sea of Stories for my youngest sister way back when she was little. And I am looking forward to the sequel.09 Nov 09 07:48
