Porter latest to leave Granta

In further upheaval at literary magazine Granta, senior editor Rosalind Porter has been made redundant. Porter's redundancy this week comes "due to a restructuring in the magazine," according to Granta spokesperson Pru Rowlandson. Porter declined to comment.
The development comes as it emerged that Granta Publications finance director Kate Gibb and associate editor Liz Jobey will leave their posts at the end of the year. Granta's online editor Roy Robins is also set to leave his post. However Rowlandson said the other staff departures were "not connected" to Porter's redundancy.
"They all had very different roles and are leaving for very different reasons," she said.Granta hit the headlines earlier this year when magazine editor Alex Clark and Granta Publications m.d. David Graham suddenly left their roles in May and June respectively.
Granta's owner, millionaire philanthropist Sigrid Rausing said at the time that she and husband Eric Abraham would be taking a more "hands-on" role in the enterprise.
John Freeman, appointed acting editor of Granta magazine following Clark's departure, was confirmed in the post earlier this month. Ellah Allfrey was announced as his deputy editor in July, joining from Jonathan Cape.

Is Granta really still relevant? Seriously. It doesn't really matter who the editors are because the publication has absolutely no focus and no vision these days. I let my subscription lapse about six years ago and I don't miss Granta at all.12 Feb 10 07:07
