Description:

Our client, based in London, publish medical journals of the highest academic calibre. They are seeking a focused Senior Editor with strong project management skills to assume responsibility for the maintenance of existing products and other information services (books, ancillary and electronic products) in four assigned medical areas - allergy, infectious diseases, plastic surgery and dermatology. This is a maternity cover role, running from mid-July 2011 until mid-September 2012.

In this role, you will manage assigned titles from pre-contract stage through to transmittal to production whilst also serving as the primary contact for authors throughout the publication process. Responsibilities include: planning/developing products that meet market needs, are superior to competing products, and increase market share; ensuring that projects adhere to plan (including schedule and budget); serving as a resource for the Development Editor and Project Manager throughout the production phase and also for the Marketing department.  You will also be responsible for researching relevant medical areas to develop a network of contacts.

The successful candidate will have a related degree (or equivalent) in science or medicine as well as extensive medical commissioning experience and ideally experience of handling large, high-profile titles in STM Publishing as well. You will have the ability to work independently, but also to collaborate closely with other team members and experience of managing authors is a must. Familiarity with acceptable formats for digital text and art is beneficial. The ideal candidate will have proven knowledge of the medical world along with excellent written and oral communication skills.  As an individual you will be energetic, proactive and responsive with a track record of achieving results. Finally, you will be flexible and able to prioritize in order to keep many projects in motion simultaneously. The position will involve around 4-5 trips to the US over the duration of the contract, therefore you must have flexibility to travel. The company offer a competitive salary plus benefits.
