Description:

A leading STM publisher has an opportunity for a publisher to maintain, develop, and take complete publishing responsibility for a list of journals within their materials science department. The publisher will also work on related projects and initiatives in materials science. This role is ideally based in their Oxfordshire offices, although exceptional applicants based in the US or the Netherlands would be considered.

 

Key duties:

  • Maintain, develop, and take complete publishing responsibility for a defined list of journals
  • Strategic business plans, and proactive contribution to departmental objectives and budget
  • Portfolio management and quality control (including Journal Quality)
  • Maintaining and developing networks of key contacts in materials science; in key territories (especially in Asia and North America)

 

Experience / skills required:

  • The ability to balance scientific knowledge with entrepreneurial skills
  • A keen interest in new online developments in journals publishing
  • A relevant scientific background and keen interest in the subject area – a relevant PhD is preferable
  • Knowledge of relevant parts of the scientific world and its sociology
  • Good communication skills, both externally and internally,
  • Be prepared to work somewhat independently from the rest of the immediate team
  • Strategic insight / overlooking boundaries
  • STM Publishing experience would be an advantage
  • Fluent English speaker
