A unique opportunity has arisen within the publishing division of a leading learned scientific Society, for an experienced Journals professional looking for a new challenge.

Based in London and reporting to the head of Publishing this role will focus on the development, launching and day to day management of new publications and related products and will oversee initiatives for their key titles.

This is a new position within the team, with an opportunity to shape and grow the role and key responsibilities will include involvement in researching and developing proposals for new journals and non-journal products and services e.g. e-books or database products; project manage both the  planning and the launch of new projects, liaising closely with relevant internal colleagues and external stakeholders; lead the day to day publishing management for newly-launched publications and services and ensure that journal development plans are reviewed and updated to schedule.

Other duties will include holding idea sessions with relevant stakeholders to provide input to new product development; investigate/research acquisition opportunities of other relevant publications and services and provide progress updates to senior management.  This role will also deputise for the Head of Publishing in appropriate meetings and working groups related to product development and journal strategy.

The successful candidate will be educated to degree level or equivalent and will have relevant experience/involvement in assisting with the product development of new journals, books or database products within a science, technical or medical publishing organisation or Society.  You may be a Journal Publishing Editor, Journal Development Editor or Journal Co-Coordinator/Manager with some product development experience/and/or journal publishing experience looking for the next step in your career or looking for a new and varied challenge within a new and forward thinking environment.  You should be able to demonstrate some experience with new publishing technologies and their application in disseminating scientific information; be computer literate with excellent communication and organisational skills; able to work effectively in a team; detail oriented and able to identify issues and propose solutions.
