Description:

A leading online open –access journal, based in Central London, is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Editor, educated to MD or PhD level or equivalent, to lead the journal’s in-house editorial team and take editorial oversight of the journal’s content.

You will be working for a flagship journal for our client, publishing peer-reviewed original research, commentary and review articles of broad interest and special importance, aimed at keeping researchers and clinicians informed of the latest advances to affect the practice of medicine.

The role of Editor provides an exciting and rare opportunity for an experienced editor to shape and develop a broad-interest medical journal by driving a commissioning program to obtain reviews and commentaries and by ensuring that the journal publishes high-quality research papers.

The main duties of the role are as follows: managing the team of In-House Assistants and Reviews Editors, who conduct the peer review and commission front matter content;  develop and maintain clear editorial policies and strategies;  maintain overall oversight of decision-making on manuscripts submitted; drive a commissioning program of high-quality reviews and commentaries; drive an advocacy program to ensure that high-quality research papers are actively solicited; liaise closely with Editorial Board Members and other key members of the scientific/medical community and develop and maintain contact through conference attendance and institute visits; and holding regular editorial board meetings and representing the company at international events.

The successful candidate will have previous editorial experience, including content development and manuscript handling, and demonstrate a broad understanding of clinical research and medical journal publishing, including open-access publishing.  This role involves line management of experienced members of the team; as such, previous line management experience is desirable. In addition you will have strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines, and a positive,  can do approach to problem solving.
