The job: A leading independent publisher of professional and academic books in the social and behavioural sciences is seeking to recruit a Director of Marketing & Sales. Main aspects of the role will be the creation of annual budgets and short term forecasts; creation of marketing plans and associated expenditure budgets required to support the sales budgets and forecasts covering both new and backlist titles; organisation and management of both marketing and sales staff; liaison with and monitoring of sales agencies; liaison with and monitoring performance of UK distributor; sale of publishing rights. Attendance at Frankfurt and possibly other international Book Fairs will also be required.

The person:  This is a senior board level position and applicants will need to have had significant current management experience in the marketing and sales fields specifically including the requirements of a rapidly changing marketing role in the publishing industry. Experience and an aptitude in digital marketing including advanced knowledge in the use of social and media networking. A well developed and successful creative style allied with clear and organised strategic thinking will be needed. An ability to lead and motivate a small dedicated team is essential whilst the applicant should also possess well developed communication skills so as to maintain the close relationship that already exists with the editorial team and the separate US sales and marketing office.  

Salary: Excellent salary commensurate with experience.
