Description:
A leading educational publisher is looking for a Development Editor to join their ELT Editorial team. Based in lovely offices in Essex, easily commutable from Liverpool Street, you will develop print and digital products for their Adult ELT list.
Key duties:
- Work with Product/Development Manager to ensure that the writer’s brief is adhered to and materials are developed to quality standards in terms of level, style and extent
- Work with writers to develop print and digital materials to the appropriate quality, approved budget and schedule
- Support writers in use of templates and other internal systems
- Understand and work to the development schedule with the writer
- Prepare book plans as necessary
- Prepare preliminary art briefs, audio scripts and digital asset logs as necessary
- Prepare final briefing documents and final photo brief
- Content edit and prepare final manuscripts for Design, using templates
- Review page proofs and work with Editor to ensure corrections are clearly marked to achieve final files to quality, budget and schedule
Experience / skills required:
- Established editorial experience within ELT publishing, ideally including adult level courses
- ELT teaching experience and a relevant TEFL / TESOL qualification (or equivalent), ideally in more than one territory
- Solid understanding of second/foreign language acquisition and teaching
- Ability to create clear, accurate briefs in line with product specifications
- Ability to give clear, timely, diplomatic and useful feedback and instructions to the writer
- Understanding of design principles: ability to combine solid pedagogy with attractive design; ability to envision copy on pages and screens
