Description:

A newly-created, Commissioning Editor role has become available at a leading publisher of schools educational textbooks and revision guides.  This is an exciting opportunity for an editor with a sound knowledge of the UK primary and secondary education sector to play a key role in the development of print and digital products.

Key duties:

• Research and commission new publishing projects in line with company strategy
• Manage the commissioning stages of projects, including evaluation of early drafts and samples
• Maintain awareness of trends and developments in the schools education sector
• Carry out market research and focus group testing to develop new proposals
• Develop strong relationships with authors and negotiate author contracts
• Work closely with in-house teams and freelancers to ensure budgets and schedules are maintained

Experience / skills required:

• Solid editorial experience within schools educational publishing, including commissioning and product development
• A strong knowledge and understanding of the UK schools education sector
• Proven author relationship management skills and negotiation skills
• Experience of managing editorial schedules and budgets
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
• Proactive and commercial approach
