The job:  A leading educational publisher is looking to appoint a Commissioning Editor to contribute to and implement the company’s publishing plans in Secondary Education. Reporting to, and working closely with the Head of Publishing, key responsibilities will include managing the commissioning, development and manuscript delivery of Secondary titles. In addition to managing the research, commissioning and strategic planning for new editions, the job holder will need to find new publishing opportunities to help drive the company’s market share. To do this you will need to understand the needs of teachers and learners and be able to convert that understanding into successful, commercial learning materials across a range of media and services.

The person:  Experience of commissioning at secondary level is essential. Whilst subject-specific experience is not essential, candidates must understand educational publishing. Other important requirements are: excellent communications skills both written and verbal; good IT skills and knowledge; ability to prioritise; excellent motivational skills and commercial awareness. The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, especially production, design and sales & marketing is essential. Whilst Oxford is the main place of work for this role, it may be possible for the job holder to work in the London office on occasions.
