Description:

A world leading publisher of academic books and provider of on-line educational resources is seeking a Commissioning Editor, Science, Engineering & Math to be based in either their Dubai or Athens office.

Reporting to the Editorial Manager (MEA) the Commissioning Editor will be responsible for sourcing, contracting, publishing and overseeing profitable and successful new products in line with agreed strategy for the Science, Mathematics, and Engineering higher education markets.  Working with the Editorial Manager, the SEM Editor will: work with authors and contributors, to develop proposals, manuscripts and related products; liaise with sales and marketing teams where appropriate to develop briefs on individual projects and confirm forecasts; ensure timely delivery of materials and manage publishing programme appropriately; work with vendors to ensure delivery of all digital components in a timely and efficient manner; commission and develop new titles in line with market strategy and within the required financial and time parameters; build the company’s profile within the marketplace; and be a strong team player both within editorial and within the Higher Education group as a whole.

The successful candidate will have solid editorial experience in textbook publishing and a very strong commissioning track record preferably in an academic or textbook publishing environment in both print and digital formats. Arabic language skills are desirable, but not essential.  The ideal candidate will have experience of hands on editorial work with authors, shaping manuscripts, and print and digital development, and strong commercial instincts are a must along with the ability to conceptualize product design and format. Ability to work both within a team and independently and you must be able to demonstrate a tenacious, results-driven approach and will to succeed.  Experience of managing a large number of major projects simultaneously is also required.  In return, our client offers a competitive salary and benefits package and an excellent opportunity to build a career with a world leading educational publisher.
