A leading global educational publisher is seeking a Business Development & Publishing Director to be responsible for the business development and publishing operations of the US market. Please note, this position is based in the company’s New York office.

Reporting to and working closely with the General Manager it will be your key responsibility to develop the publishing strategy and drive the publishing programme for the K-12 market in the US. Your main duties will be to: act as account manager and key liaison person with US distributors and partners; start up the editorial team for educational publishing in the US (acquisitions); set up publishing process for US publishing programme and rules of engagement between US and Singapore offices; market research (both print and digital); ensure quality of publications in line with market needs and trends; commission writers for the US publishing programme; and work with colleagues and teams in overseas offices to deliver the publishing programme.

The successful candidate will have extensive educational publishing, publishing management and list building experience. Knowledge of the K-12 educational publishing industry and familiarity with issues relating to the education industry in the US are musts. You will be a market-oriented individual with a proven track record in developing a successful K-12 list and strong experience in sales and distributor management. With an international outlook and excellent people and networking skills the ideal candidate will have the ability to work within a nebulous environment, to bring about and manage change and to develop and implement standards and processes. Familiarity with the Singapore curriculum/education system would be a huge advantage. In return our client offers an excellent salary and benefits package.
