E L James' Fifty Shades of Grey (Arrow) has smashed the weekly sales record for a paperback novel, selling a massive 205,130 copies in the UK last week. The phenomenal sale is some 64,000 copies higher than the previous record—set by Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol (Corgi) in July 2010.

Printed book sales rebounded after a poor week, with Nielsen BookScan reporting spending surged 10% week on week in the seven days to 2nd June. In total, £22.3m was spent on printed books at UK book retail outlets last week, up £2m on the previous week. However, sales remain down on last year—by 11%, or £2.9m.
