Slow-moving publishers risk being left out of an "explosion" in demand for the creation of book applications for the Apple iPhone and iPod Touch. At least one major non-fiction author is said to be planning to bypass his publisher and create his "app" directly.

Jason Dunne, publisher for the For Dummies and Capstone imprint at John Wiley has resigned to start a print/online publishing consultancy. Dunne has left John Wiley after being there for over six years.
"I left Wiley because I'm very excited about the iPhone and the rise of touch-screen phones in general," said Dunne....
