When the news came to The Bookseller last year that James Heneage had inked a three-book deal with Quercus my first thought, perhaps like many in the trade, was: oh, the former boss of Ottakar’s. I’m sure it was hard for him to get a book deal.
I tell Heneage this when we meet at the bar at the top of Waterstones...

Quercus' Heron Books imprint has acquired three novels by Ottakar's founder James Heneage, pre-empting the trilogy of historical novels for a six-figure sum.

Ottakar's founder James Heneage has launched the inaugural Chalke Valley History Festival, with the likes of Michelle Paver, Patrick Bishop and Peter Snow due to make appearances.
The festival takes place in south-west Wiltshire from 7-9th July and is co-founded by historian James Holland with Antony Beevor one of its patrons....
