Independent publishers appear to be weathering the economic storm better than expected, with 73% of respondents to the IPG's recent survey saying trading so far "was not worse than anticipated this year, to date".

Amazon.co.uk has appointed Gordon Willoughby as the new head of its book business. He joins the retailer tomorrow (Friday, 10th October) from eBay, where he was vice president of operations and customer support for Europe. He has previously worked with the Financial Times, Diageo and Cityspace.
