HarperCollins is to launch its "classic book selection" for Nintendo's DS games console on 26th January, with the cartridge retailing at £19.99. Nintendo revealed last week that its hand-held console would shortly be able to read books, with the launch of the classic books mix.

Sales of the "Golden Compass" film tie-in books and growth of its school book club business helped Scholastic UK to a 15% rise in sales in the year to 31st May 2008. Turnover rose from £32.3m in 2007 to £37.1m this year with operating profits of £0.39m, up from a loss of £0.36m the previous year.

Borders UK is to begin selling e-books from its website this autumn, following the launch of the iRex iLiad e-book reader in its shops in May. The news came as Borders increased the number of stores selling the iLiad from six to 12, and W H Smith began selling the device off its website.

Waterstone's is to take pre-orders for the Sony Reader from tomorrow (Thursday, 24th July), and will begin selling the device in 205 stores from early September, priced at £199, when it expects "tens of thousands" of e-books to be on offer.
