Although I'm not sure I'd agree with all of this I do think that including a note from the editor is potentially genius. Whilst publisher brands are largely invisible (NB Spot of Bother isn't very HarperCollins) it might be possible to raise the status of the personality of the publisher for particular key titles to a 'brand'. It would need to be very carfully managed and only used from time to time, but could be a powerful message to the media and to the reading public that this first novel is a "Christopher Janson-Armstrong" title (or wheover). It has been used to a small extent post Harry Potter for Barry Cunningham, but not otherwise. Establishing a brand identity for an individual publisher could create a lot of loyalty, as well as sometimes publicity. PS The Other Hand is not that 'special'.
