The job: The Education division of a leading global publishing group is looking for a Design Manager for a fixed term of  6 months to work on its school books for Africa, on a list of primarily maths and science titles. The role will involve commissioning text and cover design, setting, monitoring and controlling budgets for the titles and working in consultation with colleagues to draw up schedules and ensure they are maintained. The successful candidate will select designers, brief and commission text spec designs, and work closely with Commissioning Editors to ensure that high quality creative design is achieved. This is an exciting and challenging opportunity for an enthusiastic and flexible individual to join a busy and friendly design team.

The person:  The successful candidate will have extensive experience of book design, experience of commissioning cover and text design and a comprehensive understanding of Indesign. Good organizational and administrative skills and the ability to manage a varied and demanding workload are essential. Candidates will also need strong communication and negotiation skills along with the ability to work on their own initiative and as part of a team. A positive attitude and commitment to the aims of the department are a must.

Salary:  £25 – 28k pro rata
