If you are interested in ecological issues, this role in scientific journals publishing could be really appealing. Our client is a society that publishes leading international journals. The journals have an excellent reputation and a high impact factor, and include original research, reviews, commentary and opinions. Based in South London , they are seeking a Managing Editor to become an integral part of the publications team and take the lead on one of their globally recognised ecology journals.

Reporting to the Publications Manager you will manage the peer review process, ensuring speed and courtesy, and act as the central contact with the publisher, ensuring prompt publication of quality articles. You will also work with the journal team to identify and exploit opportunities for development and, with the rest of the publications staff, develop working practices that move the whole portfolio of journals forward. This role involves liaising with a lot of stakeholders, including the Executive Editor of the journal, other members of the journals team, the publisher, members of the publications team, office staff and the many ecologists who are authors or reviewers.

The successful applicant will hold an honours degree or equivalent, ideally in biological science or a related field. You will have a good understanding of the peer review process, ideally gained through working for a peer-reviewed journal, but possibly gained as a research worker in ecology or an allied discipline. You must be well organised, highly motivated and adaptable, and have an eye for detail. This role offers experience across all journal activities for a candidate with enthusiasm for the promotion of ecology, who wishes to pursue a career in scientific publishing.
