This is a fantastic opportunity with the world’s leading packager of high quality illustrated reference books and encyclopedias. Our client works with high profile publishers in the US and worldwide, to produce authoritative titles for audiences of all ages from kindergarten to adult, across a wide array of subjects such as natural history, geography, science, history and the arts. They are currently looking for a Managing Editor to join their friendly team in the Central London office on a permanent basis.

As Managing Editor you will play a key role in the editorial process, coordinating and overseeing the editorial process from manuscript stage to the finished product across a wide range of titles aimed for the educational middle school and high school markets as well as trade. Main duties include; project management of individual titles, commissioning freelance authors, editors and designers, chasing text and images and ensuring material is completed and delivered according to schedules and budgets.

The ideal candidate will have proven editorial experience preferably within an illustrated reference or educational publisher and demonstrable project management skills as the role involves overseeing running titles as well as developing new projects. You should have great communication skills and an accurate eye for detail. Knowledge of natural history/geography and the US market would be advantageous. You should be IT literate, experience of Quark is essential and InDesign would be advantageous.
