The job: One of the UK’s leading independent publishing and conferences organisations, specialising in providing high quality legal information for the finance and business market sectors, is looking for an experienced Publisher to manage and develop their high profile portfolio of books and other information products. Reporting to, and working closely with, the Publishing Director, the person appointed will be fully involved in growing the lists, commissioning new titles and new editions, sourcing and building productive relationships with authors and contributors, handling contract negotiations, undertaking market research to develop new publishing opportunities, overseeing the editorial and production processes, and liaising with the Marketing Director in developing promotional plans and activities.

The person: Candidates will need to have a sound background in editing and publishing books, including commissioning, list management and scheduling, ideally within legal or regulatory markets, and a good understanding of the business and finance sectors. The successful candidate must be experienced in both product and author management, with strong commercial awareness and confident communication and negotiation abilities. Knowledge and understanding of electronic/online publishing would be valuable, and some experience of journal development would also be a positive advantage. Key attributes required include a well-organised, results-focused approach to project planning and task management; creativity, high commitment, initiative, and the ability to make a significant, highly practical contribution within a small, professional team, are also important assets for this busy, proactive role.

Salary: c. £30k, depending on experience.
