The job: A major consumer publisher with an extensive range of adult and children’s books including many award winning titles is seeking to appoint a Managing Director. The company is owned by a world renowned ‘blue chip’ international publishing group. Reporting to the group CEO the successful candidate will be responsible for developing and focusing the publishing programme with an overall focus on bringing trade publishing back into centre stage within the group. Generating a culture of success that will continue to enhance the company\'s reputation as a first class consumer publisher will be a major priority. This is a main board position where the successful candidate will be expected to operate at a high level contributing to building synergies and interests across the group with a particular focus on digital development. Responsibilities include publishing and digital strategies; financial performance, establishing the appropriate structure and operational practices and leading and managing a talented team.  This is a unique opportunity for an outstanding publisher to take the helm of a successful business with further untapped potential.

The person: Candidates will need substantial consumer publishing and general management experience, inspirational leadership and operational management skills and proven success in shaping and growing a successful publishing business ideally gained within a prominent trade publishing house. Impressive business acumen and proven commercial awareness and judgement should be accompanied by a structured approach to planning and organistaion and demonstrable ability to manage change. Outstanding intellectual capability should be matched with vision and creativity plus bold decision making ability coupled with creditability and the presence to become a new figurehead that inspires confidence both inside and outside the company.
