An exciting opportunity has arisen within the textbook team at Palgrave Macmillan, the academic branch of Macmillan Publishers, for an Assistant Editor to work across our rapidly expanding health and social science lists.

We’re looking for an organised, bright and enthusiastic graduate, with strong communication skills and keen business sense.  The position will involve direct handling of projects from proposal through to final typescript, and will offer an excellent insight into commissioning and list management for those who wish to deepen their knowledge of the editorial role.

The successful applicant will:

• Have excellent communication skills in order to deal with internal colleagues and external contacts
• Be an experienced multi-tasker, with the judgement and flexibility to prioritise workload
• Demonstrate good business awareness and analytical skills, and display the ability to learn quickly
• Be resourceful, confident and comfortable working independently

You will join a friendly and ambitious team commissioning and developing texts for both the undergraduate and professional markets.  Prior experience of working within a publishing environment would be preferable.

This position is based in our offices in Basingstoke, just 45 minutes from London, Oxford or Southampton by train.
